4G & 5G Antenna Technology and Network Deployment Strategy

Mobile network deployment is becoming ever more complex: many frequency bands, legacy technology support, 4G & 5G capacity and coverage demands and a range of different radio and antenna technologies.

Making the right choices, to ensure a highly efficient, cost effective network, that take into consideration the many conflicting demands is more critical than ever. This webinar summarises the main antenna technologies currently available for sub-6GHz bands, highlight key performance characteristics and provides practical advice to help ensure effective network deployment.

Radio Design’s founder – Eric Hawthorn – kicked things off by summarising key network requirements and the range of factors which is driving increasing complexity. Our guest speaker, Dr Anvar Tukmanov – Wireless Research Manager at BT, then introduced the key classes of practical antenna technology solutions (2×2 MIMO through to 64T64R MU mMIMO) and summarised key characteristics that will influence which technology might be most appropriate for a given requirement. Finally, Dr Martin Gostling – Managing Director of Radio Design – provided an overview of some common antenna deployment scenarios, and how they can support differing network performance requirements.

Whether you have newly acquired spectrum, are planning for future auctions, or are simply looking to optimise your existing network, be sure watch the replay of this very interesting discussion!

Guest Speaker: Dr Anvar Tukmanov, Applied Research, BT Technology

Anvar has been with BT Labs at Adastral Park since 2013 where he is involved in air interface R&D focussing on systems aspects of LTE and NR covering both deployment and evolution timeframes. Until 2016 he contributed to LTE femtocell activities, and is currently leading active antenna systems research. Anvar represents BT at 3GPP RAN1 working group, where he has contributed to standardisation of 5G. Anvar holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Newcastle University, is a Senior Member of IEEE and is a recipient of UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship.
