Effective mechanical design is central to RF and microwave subsystems: many parts are electromechanical in nature; size and weight are crucial; ruggedness and the ability to withstand harsh operating environments is often a requirement; and thermal management can be critical. Radio Design’s mechanical engineering team have vast experience and know how in each of these areas.

Manufacturing is a core strength of Radio Design and the company has built a formidable in-house manufacturing control system overseeing everything from material control to yield and test data analysis. The company has both international and domestic supply chains that can be relied upon to support a wide range of products and volumes. There is a particular expertise in the manufacture of complex RF, microwave and communication assemblies and systems, demonstrated by >1M manufactured products in the field.

For all our customers we offer full life support and obsolescence management. In fact, we take lifetime support so seriously, we offer a repair and upgrade service to third parties for a wide range of communication related products.
Modular designs unlock the ability to configure and upgrade systems quickly and cost effectively. As such, they are becoming increasingly important and in many cases are being mandated by forces around the world. Radio Design are proud to be leading the way in delivering RF and microwave solutions in these modular formats.
In the heavily contested electromagnetic environment, frequency agility is a necessity. Frequency agile solutions have been part a key part of our R&D programme resulting in a number of patents. Achieving frequency agility whilst maintaining the abilities to operate both at a reasonable transmitted power and defend against high power jammers, requires pioneering techniques and solutions and is key to unlocking the potential of EW systems.
There are a large number of scenarios where size, weight and power are critical and at Radio Design, this has been a key focus. Technical break throughs have allowed us, in important cases, to significantly reduce size and weight of RF and microwave systems, in particular filter based systems.
